Georges Didi-Huberman proposes an approximation between amortization and traditional metaphysics. He says that there is a philosophical attitude that requires the observation that something is dead in order to be able to say what that thing is: something like attaching a butterfly to a piece of cork in order to study it better. However, there are other metaphysical possibilities that prefer the fluttering of life to the promise of the totality of death. “I prefer not to see the butterfly completely, I prefer it to remain alive: this is my attitude towards knowing” (Didi-Huberman, p.62, 2016). The selection of works that make up this book is based on this same attitude: in place of the longing for totality, the desire for vitality. Works less linked to the “is” of things and more allied to the movements of living things, to creation as a way of moving between knowledge and affection.
