Abstract

This paper reports on the experience of a teacher of exact sciences in a professional technical theater course located in Rio de Janeiro. The focus of the work was to analyze and report on the experience with a view more focused on accessibility as well as special and inclusive education. The 1988 Federal Constitution guarantees that all people, without exception, have access to the education system and without discrimination of any kind. Although this is a constitutional right, in practice there is some difficulty in complying with this guarantee. The school in question did not prove to be accessible, infringing various Brazilian accessibility standards in its two places of operation. With regard to inclusion, although its selection process appears to be totally open and free of prejudice, no internal actions were identified that promote the removal of barriers within the learning process, as well as specialized care for students with some kind of disorder. As for the teaching staff, there was a lack of specific dialog about the treatment that should be given to these groups of students with special needs. A more attentive and differentiated look at these students, as well as the guidance of a specialized professional for the teaching staff, could help with various setbacks that have occurred due to the existence of this gap.
