Abstract

The aim of this paper is to report an experience of academic literacy at university, with audiovisual language as a medium for the production of film-letters, promoting a critical understanding of reading and writing in two interdisciplinary bachelor's degree classes at the Federal University of Recôncavo da Bahia (UFRB). We begin with a brief discussion about certain aspects of academic literacy, based on the understanding of language as a social practice, especially in the context of a university where most students come from historically marginalized social groups. Afterwards, we present a discussion regarding the possibilities of audiovisual language in education, more specifically in academic literacy, with the experience of producing film-letters in the class Laboratory for Reading and Producing Academic Texts. Finally, we conclude with a consideration on how such practices can contribute to the emancipation of university students.
