On the 60th anniversary of the Brazilian military coup, this paper explores two metallurgical strikes that occurred in May and September 1979: the first at Mannesmann and the second in various companies in the Belo Horizonte and Contagem industrial complex, Minas Gerais. For this purpose, the study will employ oral (Oral History), documentary, and bibliographic sources. Among the documentary sources is the Mana Coelho's photography, who recorded both strikes for the Jornal dos Bairros. The analysis of these sources, complemented by the narratives of the interviewed historical subjects, will allow for the reconstruction of the context of union agitation and resistance by metallurgical workers fighting for social rights and against the military dictatorship (1964-1985).
