The research presented here was conducted by Dom - Research Group on Anthropology of Law and its objective was to understand the state of the art of legal anthropology in Brazil. In a first phase, the focus was on the analysis of periodical publications that used the keywords "anthropology of law" or "legal anthropology" in their indexation. From this collection in public databases, 68 publications were selected, according to the methodological description. From these publications, we analyzed and discussed I) object of the works; II) authors' training; III) strategies and procedures used; IV) theoretical contribution; V) geographical location of the publication vehicle; and VI) year of publication. As results, the group found a great dispersion in the formation of the authors, with most people with a Law degree. It was also verified an expansion of publications from 2010 onwards, as well as the identification of a grouping of periodical texts in the field of methodology and epistemology. Finally, among other results, it was possible to map the main theoretical references used, with emphasis on reference authors in the area.
