Resumo
Este ensaio discute a judicialização dos conflitos urbano-ambientais na América Latina. É apresentado um panorama da pesquisa sociojurídica recente acerca desse fenômeno social. Também são discutidos os conceitos-chave que vêm sendo comumente empregados nesse debate. Por fim, é proposta uma possível tipologia das funções que os juízes efetivamente desempenham como atores sociais nos conflitos urbano-ambientais.

Abstract
This essay discusses the judicialization of urban environmental conflicts in Latin America. It provides an overview of recent sociolegal research on this social phenomenon. It also discusses the key concepts that have been commonly employed in this debate and suggests a tentative typology that refers to the roles judges actually play as social actors in conflicts of this kind.
