Abstract

Este artigo trata do processo de difusão social da Psicanálise em terras brasileiras no período anterior à sua institucionalização, isto é, à fundação das sociedades de formação filiadas à Associação Psicanalítica Internacional. Argumentamos que, neste período, a difusão da doutrina dava-se em três níveis: entre os intelectuais da vanguarda modernista, entre os representantes do establishment médico-psiquiátrico e entre o público leigo. Examinamos os dois últimos níveis na sua relação com o processo de modernização da sociedade brasileira.
