Abstract

In recent years, Psychology organizations around the world have produced documents that propose a careful look at the particularities of the LGBTI+ reality that can interfere with mental health and psychological care, suggesting principles for action to guide professionals on the adequate provision of care to LGBTI+ individuals. The existence of these documents reaffirms the need for approximation and awareness of professionals in the field facing issues concerning this group. This study aimed to understand how psychological care for the LGBTI+ population is described and proposed by professional associations around the world. This is a documentary study in which a descriptive and comparative analysis of documents produced by organizations from different countries was carried out. The results demonstrate an emphasis on the professional's awareness of the historical contributions of Psychology; the need for self-assessment; the importance of developing an affirmative professional attitude and involvement in promoting social and political change.
