Body Dissatisfaction in Women: Correlation with the ICTs Use and Physical Exercise

The thin body is the beauty ideal disseminated by the media and the pressure in women becomes constant. The present study aims to investigate if there is relation between body dissatisfaction in women, ICT use; famous' women social media follow-up and physical exercise. It's a quantitative and correlational study. The instruments used were the Body Shape Questionnaire, Figure Rating Scale and Internet Addiction Test. Participated in the study 543 women of the South of Brazil aged 18-24. Most of the participants (88.9%) is dissatisfied with their body. There was significant positive correlation between body dissatisfaction and internet addiction. The body dissatisfaction is greater in women that have famous' women as inspiration, and those who frequentely check their weight on the scale. Moreover, women who don't practice physical exercise obtained higher means in body dissatisfaction and internet addiction. In conclusion, it's necessary wariness by young women at what kind of content is being accessed on the internet.
