Abstract

This work was written as part of the doctoral internship carried out by one of the authors in Portugal during the production of the research carried out in Brazil, the object of which was access to the singularities of the experiences of young people who received socio-educational measures for committing an infraction. Based on the research productions, we discuss the violence that exists within the social context that produces it as a possibility and, for the majority of brazilian adolescents, a way of survival. We debate how, with the idea of altering the author's personality and wanting revenge, issues that are relevant to the offense are neglected within the socio-educational measure, with more attention being paid to the infraction than to what would have caused it. The work with life stories shows political and institutional effects on life trajectories, one of them being the duration of the socio-educational measure of hospitalization, produced as indeterminate as it is not taken as a topic among the adolescents who comply with it, in a way that remains being thought about as an individual issue, weakening the possibilities of resistance. The objective of this article is to raise the issue of the conversation device and time as a form of control over life, using, for this, narratives constructed with adolescents in Brazil and Portugal.
