This work is the result of the research carried out in the framework of the project "Didactic and Teachers Guide Materials on Drugs, Alcohol and Other Drugs for Basic Education: Approaches, Lines of Action and Purposes", which analyzes the publications of the last 20 years in Brazil. The sources analyzed are Gilberto Mattje's Tosco book (2009), written for students in the third and fourth cycles of the fundamental, which deals with adolescent conflicts and risks involved in this phase of life; And Understanding Tosco (2011), written by the same author, as an authoritative reading guide of the first, especially aimed at teachers, with indications of activities to be worked on with the students. The objective was to analyze the process of constructing the female characters of the Tosco book, considering, as a more general aspect of the analysis, that the conditions created for reading participate in the construction of their meanings, and, as a more specific aspect, that the representations of gender And sexuality are constructed through multiple learning and practices, by means not always explicit (LOPES, G., 2008). The analysis is oriented in two senses, the macro and the microanalytical. The first, considering the perspective of the history of the book, edition and reading (CHARTIER, 2002), from which the conditions of publication and the various actors involved in this process give meanings to the texts, our analysis sought to understand the meanings of the policies Which gave support to the adoption of these books by the Brazilian public schools. We conclude that the struggle of women for the right to speak about themselves does not find support in these books.
