Este ensaio é registro de uma reflexão nascida a partir da prática vivida por nós, autores, há mais de quinze anos atuando como profissionais de educação em áreas conflagradas da cidade do Rio de Janeiro e Grande Rio. A ação educacional descrita, aconteceu no Complexo da Maré, especificamente na Escola Municipal Nova Holanda, situada na favela que leva o mesmo nome, mas poderia ter acontecido em qualquer outra comunidade carioca, haja visto as peculiaridades existentes num contexto de favela, que tem na ausência do poder público, seu maior desencadeador. Numa escrita insurgente pautada na decolonialidade, mantemos diálogo com nossos pares, autores e pesquisadores das favelas, quebradas e periferias do sul global, que busca olhar os saberes dessas localidades com a mesma relevância de saberes outros.
