CORTIÇOS E PATRIMÔNIO NOS ANOS 1980: tristes desfechos no bairro da Bela Vista, em São Paulo

Para este artigo, foram selecionados dois casos por meio dos quais é possível problematizar as relações entre cortiços e patrimônio no bairro da Bela Vista, em São Paulo, durante a década de 1980: o do cortiço conhecido como "Vaticano” e o dos casarões das ruas Assembleia e Jandaia, que permaneceram ocupados com habitações coletivas entre os anos 1960 e 1980. Ambos os casos evidenciam que tanto o patrimônio quanto os cortiços constituíram, naquele momento, elos frágeis no embate de forças entre os moradores, os interesses dos proprietários, do setor imobiliário e da municipalidade e a preservação do patrimônio edificado e dos lugares de moradia. A reflexão é pertinente na medida em que se acredita que essa desigualdade de forças faça parte das dinâmicas urbanas das grandes cidades brasileiras até os dias atuais.
