Abstract

Na geografia urbana de Caracas, a contiguidade espacial entre os bairros elegantes (« urbanizaciones ») e os bairros populares e pobres (« barrios ») permite explorar o contraste entre a categoria socio-espacial de vizinhança e a categoria sócio-política de a comunidade. Entre uma « gated community » [condomínio fechado] e a favela que emerge a seu lado, quais são os processos comuns de homogeneização do habitat (produção de espaços residenciais) e do habitar (usos e práticas da cidade)? Quando a contiguidade dos extremos torna as fronteiras pouco permeáveis, o evitamento e o confronto arriscam-se a constituir formas privilegiadas de experiência do outro. Nesse contexto, a cidadania pode estar ameaçada por novas formas de segregação: estar ao lado não implica estar junto.
