Baseando-se no conceito de “duplo-movimento”, de Polanyi, que mostra como a sociedade defende-se da dominação do mercado auto regulado, este artigo formula alguns dos obstáculos organizacionais e ideológicos que o atual “movimento dos movimentos” deverá superar para enfrentar a hegemonia da globalização neoliberal. Depois de expor as deficiências do neoliberalismo, faz a defesa da possibilidade de uma “globalização contra-hegemônica”, definida como um projeto de transformação globalmente organizado visando substituir o atual regime global dominante por outro que enfatize o controle político democrático e torne
prioritários o desenvolvimento igualitário das capacidades humanas e a sustentabilidade ambiental.
