Entre as décadas de 1920 e 1930, o município de Nova Iguaçu teve a citricultura como motor econômico. Em meados dos anos 1940, a região sofreu com as emancipações e loteamentos. Os setores da indústria e comércio foram ampliados, assim como as forças políticas. Mediante essas mudanças, os “herdeiros” da geração ruralista fundaram a Arcádia Iguassuana de Letras em agosto de 1955. A instituição produziu um conjunto de obras, objeto deste estudo, estabelecendo a relação entre passado, agricultura e promissão2. A literatura produzida pelos árcades completou ações culturais iniciadas em períodos anteriores. O objetivo é demonstrar como a escrita da história iguaçuana representou o esforço pedagógico de um grupo de letrados na concretização de uma memória sobre Nova Iguaçu.
