AN INTERDISCIPLINARY APPROACH TO THE LITERARY WORK A ÁRVORE, BY BARTOLOMEU CAMPOS DE QUEIRÓS

READING AND TEXTUAL PRODUCTION

Abstract

This research is based on the principle that reading and writing are responsibilities shared by all areas of knowledge (Neves et al., 2001) and proposes a reflection on the subjects involved in the training of readers and the promotion of reading and textual production in schools. The first part discusses the ideas of Guedes and Souza (2001), who argue that reading and writing practices should be taken on by the school as a whole, and not just by the Portuguese language teacher. Next, the study presents a proposal for the interdisciplinary application of these precepts to the literary work A árvore, by Bartolomeu Campos de Queirós, aimed at basic education. Based on the contributions of Camara (2012), the study reinforces the importance of consolidating reading and writing as essential practices in all subjects, highlighting the difficulties students have in understanding texts in a meaningful way. Also inspired by Paulo Freire (1989), especially in A importância do ato de ler, the study concludes that schools and teachers play a fundamental role in training critical and sensitive readers. It is therefore argued that all teachers should be active readers, capable of interpreting texts in depth, establishing intertextual connections, and contributing to the construction of a reading that allows for the rewriting of the world.
