O Turismo Pedagógico como Instrumento de Democratização dos Espaços da Cidade

This article presents some possible contributions of Pedagogical Tourism to the promotion of citizenship and to the teaching-learning process in public basic education in Brazil. To this end, it discusses some authors who have carried out research involving Tourism and Education, establishing relationships between these fields in order to show the importance of including the territory of everyday life in the content worked on in the classroom, thus transcending the walls of the school and promoting a more playful teaching-learning process that is consistent with the characteristics of the local territory. This is the path followed by the Tourism, Territory and Education Research Center at Rio de Janeiro State University, which, for ten years, has been carrying out extension and research work with public schools in the municipalities of Teresópolis, Areal and Rio de Janeiro, all in the state of Rio de Janeiro. This work involves studies carried out by the group's members, the provision of free extension courses and support for the Pedagogical Tourism method developed by the group. The results point to the possibility of creating public policies aimed at supporting schools in carrying out extramural activities, in order to reduce the difficulties and expand the implementation of pedagogical tourism.
