Throughout the twentieth century modern geographic thought dedicated itself to reflecting on the role of technology as a mediating element in man's relationship with the "environment", in other words with geographical space. However interest in how space acts as a conditioning factor for technical progress is relatively recent in the history of the discipline. This article proposes a theoretical-methodological reflection aimed at expanding this debate, focusing on the modernization of Brazil's agricultural regions. The aim is to contribute to the formulation of a model of analysis that considers differential spatiality in its role as an explanatory factor and not merely as a "stage" where technical progress in the agricultural sector takes place.
