This article aims to present and discuss the teaching experience during the construction and execution of the Research Methodology in Geography course, in the Department of Geography of the Faculdade de Educação da Baixada Fluminense (FEBF), unit of the State University of Rio de Janeiro ( UERJ), located in the municipality of Duque de Caxias, RJ. Thus, we address issues that involve all stages of a higher-level discipline, such as: the construction of course objectives, the choice of bibliography, the forms of evaluation adopted, the dynamics of classes, etc. Methodologically, we chose to structure a step by step of what the course involved, in addition to interviews with students and with the professor who was invited to teach a class. That said, we were able to conclude that the objectives outlined for the course were met, in view of the students' understanding of the content proposed by us and also considering our learning acquired throughout the semester.
