This paper discusses the advantages and importance of regional integration groupings in Central Asia. The study aims to address how unsuccessful attempts at association in the region may indicate the end of Central Asian regionalism, given the recent role that Uzbekistan has played as a promoter of dialogue and cooperation. To do so, the research was primarily based on a bibliographic review of primary and secondary sources to support the proposed discussion. In particular, the paper analyzes the context of such initiatives within the framework of the Central Asian Economic Community (CAEC) and the reasons that led to their extinction, drawing parallels between what drives Central Asian countries toward integration and what hinders its progress. It also examines the potential of the Uzbek government as an alternative for resolving regional disputes, as well as the limitations and scope of its role as a promoter of local regionalism.
