Abstract

In this interview, historian Jimena Perry analyzes state intervention in American universities, characterizing the Trump administration's actions as expressions of a "new fascism." From a historical-anthropological perspective, Perry discusses the symbolic impact of the budget freeze at Harvard and tactics of linguistic silencing, such as the censorship of terms like "social justice" and "human rights" in smaller institutions. The text underscores the conflict between institutional pragmatism and the ethical resistance of the faculty, demonstrating how teaching topics such as racism and white supremacy has become an act of political resistance.
