Risco para úlcera por pressão em idosos hospitalizados: aplicação da escala de Waterlow

Abstract

Estudo exploratório que objetivou mensurar o risco para úlcera por pressão em idosos hospitalizados. Foi realizado em hospital universitário, localizado em João Pessoa-Paraíba, Brasil, no período de outubro de 2009 a julho de 2010, envolvendo 53 idosos. Na coleta de dados, utilizou-se um instrumento subsidiado pela Escala de Waterlow. Para análise do material empírico, adotaram-se procedimentos de estatística descritiva. Constatou-se que os idosos com maiores riscos foram aqueles do sexo feminino, que apresentavam aumento ou diminuição do índice de massa corporal, idade acima de 65 anos, comorbidades, maior período de internaão e mobilidade física prejudicada. Conclui-se que os idosos evidenciam risco elevado de desenvolver úlcera por pressão, fazendo-se necessária a adoção de medidas para preveni-las, como reduzir o período de hospitalização e melhorar o cuidado de enfermagem daqueles com doenças crônicas e imobilidade.
