MULTIPLE LANGUAGE SKILLS THROUGH SAMBA DE ENREDO (SAMBA THEME SONG) AND TECHNOLOGY IN PORTUGUESE CLASSES

Abstract

This text presents the project report performed with classes of the ninth grade of a municipal school in Rio de Janeiro, which was intended to promote multiple language skills and use Digital Information and Communication Technology (DICT), in this case, digital cameras. The purpose of the activities was to enable the improvement of linguistic, literary, racial and social and critical skills from the listening and reading of the samba de enredo Axé, Nkenda – Um ritual de Liberdade”, composed by the carioca samba school Imperatriz Leopoldinense, for the 2015 Carnival. The text served as a basis for, first of all, knowing the important South African activist Nelson Mandela, after whom the communities surrounding the institution in which the reported project has been developed are named, in the neighborhood of Manguinhos. The work developed attempted to answer the question: how to promote language skills and stimulate critical thinking using digital technologies as a tool? The choice of the corpus and activities developed are justified by the fact that the institution where the project has been developed is located close to the communities Mandela I and Mandella II. Therefore, it was considered that the students should know the character that has inspired the name of these communities. The samba lyrics has also enabled the students to acquire lexical, historical, geographical and anthropological knowledge involving the African continent. As part of the project, the students have also watched the documentary “Mandela, entre nós” for them to learn a little more about this character worldwide known for the defense of equal racial treatment. After the impact of the information regarding the African continent and Nelson Mandela’s fight, it was proposed to assemble a wall named “Portraits of Mandela”, with pictures followed by a small presentation text of the people from the communities Mandela I and Mandela II, whose actions can be an example for their inhabitants. The project has provided recognition of the honored people’s actions and caused the students to reinforce their identity values and the sense of belonging, in addition to knowing Nelson Mandela and his fight for equal racial treatment through pacific means.
