The present review aims to critically reflect upon Sociologies del’alimentation: les mangeurs et l’espace social alimentaire, a book bythe french socioanthropologist Jean-Pierre Poulain, one of theleading food scholars in the field of Humanities. In order toachieve our objective, we will highlight and discuss, among themany issues addressed by the author, those we consider to be themost crucial for a better understanding of his work, for example,the lack of a sociology of food as a separate field of studies andthe possibility of studying food through the “food social space”.
