Abstract

The book Por um devir quilombo na escola pública: resistir com infâncias na filosofia, published by NEFI Edições, is the result of the doctoral research of public school teacher and researcher Edna Olímpia da Cunha. It is a book that will certainly interest those who live and/or dream of “the teaching profession” as an art of aquilombar (quilombo-making) and resisting. Edna Olímpia develops a escrevivência (life-writing) from her participation as a teacher in the project "Filosofia: Em Caxias a Filosofia En-caixa?!", promoted since 2007 at Joaquim da Silva Peçanha Municipal School, in Duque de Caxias/RJ, in partnership with the Núcleo de Estudos de Filosofias e Infâncias (NEFI – Center for Studies on Philosophies and Childhoods). This concrete experience with the project serves as the starting point of the book, which expands the listening to childhoods and connects these voices with broader philosophical and educational questions. Indeed, the author reports that her concerns are moved by the invitation to philosophize made by the very children who were already participating in the thinking experiences carried out in the project. Thus, the book addresses the relationship between philosophy and education in a public school on the urban periphery, highlighting the importance of dialogue, listening, and the recognition of childhoods as affirmative forces of life. The text emphasizes the strength of the partnership between the school and the public university.
