Abstract

Mass longevity in the West, and not just a privilege of the ruling class, indicates that aging is not merely an isolated biological phenomenon, but a historical-social phenomenon that interacts with and acts upon the biological. The objective of this article is to present the author's research results on aging in the field of Social Work, which proves this thesis. It concludes that longevity is a result of social policies and the material and immaterial conditions of life, although it is always unequal, as it also depends on gender and race/ethnicity markers. The stage of neoliberal counter-reforms threatens this achievement of the working class.
