Abstract

The aging of Brazil's population has accelerated in recent decades, requiring the government to implement long-term care policies. This article is based on a literature review conducted in the Proceedings of the International Congress on Active Aging, held at UNESP/Franca in 2016, 2017, and 2019, with the aim to analyze how the authors of the published works discuss care for the elderly. The results indicate that understanding the heterogeneity of aging among the working class, the feminization of old age, longevity, and degeneration are decisive for the construction of long-term care policies. it was identified that the provision of care is marked by asymmetrical responsibility between the family, society, and the state, with families bearing most of the burden, regardless of socioeconomic status and family cohabitation. It should be noted that the feminization of care is clear.
