Abstract

The aging of the Brazilian population is a phenomenon that brings various transformations on public policies. Aging in Brazil is not a homogeneous experience. It´s traversed by social markers of race/color, gender, class and territory that structure unequal life-course trajectories and produce multiple forms of aging with distinct opportunities and vulnerabilities. This article  aims to analyze population aging in Brazil based on data from the 2022 Demographic Census, using an intersectional approach to understand the  persistent inequalities that affect the aged population. Methodologically, it employs descriptive analysis and of secondary data produced by Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) , in according to  gender and race/color, as well as aging data for the quilombola population and residents of favelas and urban communities. The results indicate that racial, gender and territorial inequalities are manifested in the  pattern of demographic aging. It is concluded that public policies must incorporate intersectional and territorial approaches in order to ensure a dignified and rights based old age.
