The ethnic-racial issue in Social Work curricula: notes and challenges

Abstract

The article aims to present preliminary results of the research “The Ethnic-Racial Question and the Foundations of Social Service: a Necessary Relationship in Professional Training”. The main data collected on the websites of the Academic Training Units affiliated with ABEPSS/East Region (Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo) will be demonstrated, referring to the Political-Pedagogical Projects of the Social Service courses (PPC's), systematized according to the type of the disciplines (mandatory, optional or elective) and their respective syllabi. Followed by theoretical reflection around the initial results, which indicate a general tendency of insertion of the theme in the curricular contents, however, in a diverse and dispersed process. Within the limits of this article, we will present the main theoretical tendencies in the debate of anti-racism such as the need and importance of research and collective productions on the ethnic-racial issue in Brazil, strengthening the ABEPSS Guidelines.
