Abstract

The objective of this essay is to correlate the views of Carolina de Jesus, in her work “Quarto de dump: diario de uma favelada”, with the inequality currently experienced by the social segments that most violate their rights based on a theoretical-bibliographic review. and analysis of the content of said work, emphasizing some thematic axes such as social inequality, racism and gender violence. The condition that Brazilians are currently experiencing is hunger, poverty, difficulties in accessing public services, among other expressions of social issues. This scenario was worsened by the Covid-19 pandemic, when social injustice and the conservative and neoliberal offensive against workers were further highlighted. The health crisis was associated with the ongoing capital crisis, deepening its repercussions on the world of work and social relations. The work “Dump room: diary of a favela” shows the formation of a critical consciousness about reality, from the perspective of a worker, who experienced social inequities in her condition as a mother, black, impoverished and living in a favela, to break the appearance and reach the essence of phenomena. This critical awareness is fundamental to combat narratives adverse to democracy that emerge to destroy and delegitimize social rights as achievements of the working class.
