Abstract

This article is part of the research “Radical Social Work in the UK: the historical-critical foundations of British Social Work in contemporary times”, çinked to the research network “Social Work in History: social issues and social movements - Latin America and Europe”. Based on bibliographical research, the study aims to present similarities and dissonances between Brazilian and British Social Work in challenging the traditional perspective. It starts from the historical determinants that allowed the emergence of contestatory perspectives to traditional Social Work in the Brazilian and British reality, especially in the context of capitalist social relations from the 1960s and its legacy today. The hypothesis is that the interlocution between critical strands of Social Work in the two countries presents important elements for the contemporary debate in the profession and therefore deserves to be further developed.
