Resumo:

O objetivo do presente artigo é apresentar os principais argumentos desenvolvidos no último livro de Ronald Dworkin: ReligionWithout God. Para tanto, em primeiro lugar são analisadas as considerações do autor sobre a morte e a imortalidade. Em seguida, como uma forma de facilitar a compreensão da obra em análise, passa-se a uma breve incursão à concepção de igualdade. Os pontos seguintes tratam da tese central do livro, que culmina com o tratamento da religião como o direito à independência ética. Ao final, alguns dos argumentos desenvolvidos pelo autor são utilizados na análise de uma recente decisão do Supremo Tribunal Federal, na tentativa de visualizar suas implicações práticas.

Abstract:

The aim of this article is to present the main arguments brought forth in Ronald Dworkin’s last book, Religion Without God. In this sense, firstly the author's considerations about death and immortality are analyzed. Then, in order to facilitate the work’s comprehension, a brief overview of the concept of equality is given. The following points address the central thesis of the book, which is the treatment of religion as the right to ethical independence. Lastly, some of the arguments developed by the author are considered in the analysis of a recent decision of the Supreme Court, in an attempt to visualize their practical implications.
