Use of AI in Manuscripts Submitted to the Journal

The journal follows COPE guidance on the use of artificial intelligence (AI). Authors who use AI tools at any stage of the research or manuscript preparation must clearly disclose how the tool was used and identify the specific tool employed. This information must be included on the Title Page. Authors bear full responsibility for the content of their manuscripts, including any portions generated with AI tools, and are responsible for any breaches of publication ethics.

Declaration of Conflicts of Interest

The journal’s editorial board considers transparency regarding potential conflicts of interest essential for responsible editorial decision-making and for maintaining readers’ trust. Accordingly, all parties involved in the publication process—authors, reviewers, and editors—must declare any potential sources of conflict of interest. Such conflicts may take different forms, including personal, commercial, political, academic, or financial interests. Conflicts may arise when these interests have the potential to influence the preparation, analysis, or editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts. Authors must disclose in the manuscript all sources of funding that supported the study, as well as any relevant relationships or affiliations related to the work.

Preprint Policy

The journal accepts manuscripts previously deposited in reliable preprint repositories, provided this is disclosed at the time of submission on the Title Page.

Open Science

In alignment with contemporary open science practices, the journal encourages the sharing of data, materials, and code via online repositories, in compliance with ethical and confidentiality standards. The journal accepts supplementary materials associated with the study.

Accordingly, authors of accepted articles must indicate on the Title Page the availability of the data and materials underlying the research and its results, selecting one of the following options: (1) available upon request from the authors; (2) available in a public repository; (3) included within the manuscript; (4) not applicable.

Similarity Detection Policy

All manuscripts are subject to similarity checks using detection software (e.g., CopySpider).

Checks are conducted:

  1. Before peer review
  2. Before publication

Evidence of plagiarism, self-plagiarism, or inappropriate text overlap may result in return for revision or rejection, as determined by the Editorial Committee.

Manuscripts derived from theses and dissertations do not constitute self-plagiarism, provided they are properly cited.

Authorship

The journal adopts the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT). Authorship credit must be based on substantial contributions by each listed author to the conception and design of the research, data collection, analysis and interpretation, as well as drafting and critical revision of the manuscript.

Only one submission per author is permitted: an author may not have two or more manuscripts simultaneously under review, whether as lead author or co-author. The journal does not publish more than one article by the same author (either as lead author or co-author) within the same year (volume). Manuscripts will be considered for evaluation provided they have not been submitted to another journal or previously published or presented at scientific events.

Journal History

Estudos e Pesquisas em Psicologia published its inaugural issue in 2001 as an initiative of the Institute of Psychology at UERJ, establishing itself as a venue for scholarly dissemination in Psychology. In 2004, the journal moved to an online format, expanding access, reducing editorial costs, and enabling more timely dissemination of research, in response to technological developments and in line with its commitment to broadening access to scientific knowledge.

From 2005 onwards, the journal incorporated thematic collections, initially as special sections and later as full issues dedicated to specific themes, organized by guest editors and peer-reviewed. This strategy strengthened the journal’s editorial identity and broadened interdisciplinary dialogue in the Humanities.

Over the course of its history, the journal has expanded its presence in national and international databases, including PePSIC, LILACS, Latindex, CLASE, DOAJ, Psicodoc, Redalyc, and PSI Periódicos, among others, and achieved an A2 classification in the Qualis CAPES system (2017–2020).

Since 2024, Estudos e Pesquisas em Psicologia has adopted a continuous publication model, in which accepted articles are published immediately upon completion of the editorial process, forming a single continuously updated annual volume.

The journal has maintained uninterrupted publication since 2001, with its complete archive available through the UERJ Electronic Publications Portal.
