The Editorial Board

Peer Review Process

The submitted manuscripts cannot have been previously published in any other journal, neither be simultaneously under consideration for publication.

After submission, all manuscripts will be analyzed by the staff of the journal, which will preliminarily check for compliance with all publication and preparation norms of an original, specified in the author’s guidelines. In the case of inaccuracies, the originals will be returned to the author(s) for modifications. The authors will be notified and will have an opportunity to revise and resubmit their manuscripts.

The papers that comply with the publication and original preparation standards will undergo a pre-analysis by the Editorial Committee, which will assess aspects such as focus, scope, relevance, and compliance with editorial norms and guidelines. Papers that are not deemed suitable in this pre-analysis will be rejected. Those considered relevant will proceed to the evaluation by ad hoc Consultants at the discretion of the Editors and in accordance with the areas of expertise and specialization of the reviewers, provided there is no conflict of interest on their part. Evaluation criteria will include presentation and writing style, content, methodology, presentation of results, and discussion, conclusions, and/or final considerations.

Studies and Research in Psychology uses the double-blind evaluation system, so as to preserve the identity of the authors alongside the evaluators'. The authors are responsible for checking that there are no elements capable of identifying them in any part of the text.

Guidelines at http://www.e-publicacoes.uerj.br/index.php/revispsi/help/view/ editorial/topic/000044

The peer review process can take up to 12 months. Manuscripts may be: accepted, accepted pending certain alterations, or rejected. In the case of accepted pending certain alterations, the demanded alterations will be indicated to the author(s). The submission of the revised manuscript shall occur, compulsorily, through the journal’s website within the agreed deadline. If the authors do not return the revised manuscript within the agreed deadline, the submission will be archived.

The Editorial Board always takes the final decision to accept or reject the manuscript for publication. The authors will be notified of the acceptance or rejection of their manuscripts and will receive a summary of reviewers’ opinions on their work.

The Editorial Board reserves the right to make small alterations or cuts in the work, with the goal of making it conform with the journal’s publication criteria, as long as none of these alterations result in changes in content. Journal History

Studies and Research in Psychology was first edited at the end of 2001, in a joint effort of the editorial board and the staff of the School of Psychology from UERJ in order to satisfy a demand from the growing academic community at the time. In 2004, new editorial and technical innovations were introduced with the journal changing its format into electronic, at http://www.revispsi.uerj.br. This alternative way of publishing solved problems editors face when trying to publish in print: lack of resources to keep a better and more consistent periodicity, high publishing costs, subscription fees etc. Undoubtedly, having the works and other sections digitally available reduced costs as well as the time and space necessary for the production of the journal. Nowadays, the journal has free access.

However, if those more pragmatic aspects of a journal’s edition were important for the implementation of the new vehicle, it is also important to highlight at least two concerns that moved its Editorial Board. First, the science, whose methods of material and symbolic production in society are nowadays especially engineered by a technological revolution that creates new architectures in the social fabric, and, consequently, creates an impact on the behaviour of numerous areas, notably those connected to the transmission of knowledge. Secondly, the Journal aimed the transmission of information to be as universal as possible, turning itself into an instrument of socialization and democratization of knowledge, science and culture. Moved largely by these purposes, the Editorial Board decided to change the Journal into the electronic format.

In 2005, new editorial changes took place after the implementation of an idea that had been nourished ever since the very beginning of the journal: the publishing of thematic dossiers. We wanted to do so because, in practical terms, a dossier is an experience closer to the book culture that the Humanities and Social Sciences have historically built for the dissemination of their knowledge. In the first issues (2005 and 2006), the dossiers were part of the regular publication of the Journal, under the title “thematic section” and, despite the high quality of the articles, they were still editorial essays, since they depended, for continuity, on a large number of papers on the same theme. The Journal was biannual until 2006. However, since 2007, the experience has been consolidated so that the dossiers could be published in full on the same theme. It should also be noted that the dossiers share some of the characteristics of the regular issues of the journal — the high quality of texts, guaranteed by a strict system of peer review — addressing, however a single theme and, sometimes with the participation of an associate editor, external to the Editorial Board, who honours us with the experience and leadership that they have in the specific thematic field of the dossier.

In 2007, taking in consideration the large flow of articles, the Journal expands its periodicity, becoming a quarterly Journal, aiming at the expansion of its access, the dissemination of the Journal and also the socialization of knowledge in Psychology and related areas.

In 2014, given the large flow of articles received and to meet editorial and authorial demands, the thematic dossiers become a special additional issue, that is, three issues with articles of continuous flow are now guaranteed, and in the case of a thematic issue, it becomes the fourth issue published annually by the Journal.

Finally, it should be highlighted, that the Studies and Research in Psychology journal is already a part of some very important databases: PePSIC, PSI Periódicos, LILACS, Latindex, CLASE, DOAJ, Psicodoc and is classified as A2 at CAPES’ QUALIS (2014).
