Abstract

At the end of the most critical year in the history of mankind, the Brazilian Supreme Federal Court reached an all-time record in the trial of extraordinary appeals with some recognized general repercussion, totaling a balance of 128 judged themes. Amongst these, 104 were analyzed through the virtual plenary. The numbers show its efficiency, but it is necessary to question whether this efficiency is maintained in qualitative terms. This is the main issue of the present article. To develop it, we make use of documental, qualitative-quantitative research, with an exploratory purpose. It is possible to verify that the suppression of orality in virtual trials can generate precedents without clear reasoning, the result of votes and disconnected arguments due to the absence of previous debate.
