O exemplum na Sátira 3 de Juvenal: retórica, moralidade e ethos

Este artigo examina o uso de exemplum na Sátira 3 de Juvenal, destacando como esse recurso, oriundo da tradição retórica romana, é apropriado pelo poeta na construção de sua visão satírica de Roma. Demonstra-se que Juvenal emprega exempla com grande flexibilidade, mobilizando tanto precedentes históricos consagrados quanto personagens contemporâneos ou ficcionais para fortalecer seu argumento. Ao contrapor exempla negativos, que ilustram a realidade corrompida de seu tempo, aos exempla virtuosos do passado remoto, Juvenal edifica um ethos conservador, que confronta um passado idealizado com um presente percebido como decadente e moralmente degradado.
