Getúlio de Oliveira Cabral nasceu em 4 de abril de 1942 em Espera Feliz (MG). Segundo seu irmão Vitor Hugo, seu nome foi uma homenagem que sua mãe prestou ao presidente Getúlio Vargas. As fontes usadas nesta pesquisa foram principalmente documentos encontrados no Aperj e no site do Grupo Tortura Nunca Mais e entrevistas. O principal conceito norteador dessa pesquisa é o de memória, usado na ótica de Pollak, Jacques Le Goff e Paul Ricouer. A pesquisa trabalha em conjunto com a História Política e a História Oral.
