“Ainda há muitos brutos para admirarmos”: a parcialidade da voz narrativa em "Carvão Animal", de Ana Paula Maia

Abstract

This article presents an interpretation of the work Carvão animal (2011), by Ana Paula Maia, regarding the position of the narrator in the novel. It is considered that the author, a self-proclaimed naturalist, updates the ideal narrator of the 19th century by developing a narrative voice corresponding to the contradictions and exaggerations narrated. The article argues, based on excerpts from the book, that Carvão animal presents a subjective narrator who selects what is told to defend a thesis that reduces the worker to the work he performs. It is also taken into account that there are insertions of particular opinions from the narrative voice that often do not find correspondence in the portrayal of the characters' individuality. This movement, in turn, occurs since the Presentation, which makes it possible to read this text as part of the narrative.
