The aim of this article is to discuss the excessive presence of neoliberal components, as theme, for example in materials, legislations and specially in German teaching textbooks. We have selected the Kursbuch volume A1.1 of Menschens collection, in order to proceed a case study stablishing an investigation on the presence of neoliberal discourses in a language learning context. Therefore, we will use the Pêcheuxtian perspective of Discourse Analysis (Pêcheux, 1975; 1983) and the Foulcault based analysis about power, discussed from the images of learners by Arantes (2018). Additionally, theoretical references that broach the constituted and perpetuated power relations through discourses, as Foucault (2002) and Van Dijk (2018 [2008]), will support to investigate book activities and the influence of their formulations on the learner’s production, as the current discussion about neoliberalism in education and its effects.
