PALIMPSESTO'S EDITORIAL GUIDELINES

Palimpsesto's editorial committee establishes the following guidelines in order to accept unpublished articles or reviews:

All texts must follow this configuration: margins of 3cm; double space between lines; Times New Roman, size 12; Page format: A4; justified; 1 cm indentation at the beginning of paragraphs; unnumbered pages. File type: Word for Windows (extension doc).

Articles:

1. Its first page must include a title (in capitals, bold, and aligned to the left) and an empty space between the title and its translation in Portuguese. There must be empty spaces in between all titles, sections and text.

2. After the title, an abstract in Portuguese must follow (from 80 to 150 words, preceded by the word RESUMO, in capitals and in bold), followed by keywords (3 to 5, separated by commas and preceded by the expression Palavras-chave, in bold). An abstract and keywords in a foreign language (English, Spanish or French) must follow, in compliance with the same rules used for the abstract and keywords in Portuguese.

3. Body of the article.

4. References: (preceded by the word References - or an equivalent word in the language of submission - in capitals and in bold). References must be restricted to sources actually quoted in the article and follow the rules established below.

You can find the template for articles here.

Reviews:

1. Its first page must include a title (in capitals, bold, and aligned to the left) and an empty space between the title and its translation in Portuguese. There must be empty spaces in between all titles, sections and text.

2. After the title, the bibliographical reference of the work is reviewed, following the norms established below.

3. Body of the review.

4. References: (preceded by the word References - or an equivalent word in the language of submission - in capitals and in bold). References must be restricted to sources actually quoted in the article and follow the rules established below.

General guidelines:

1. Citations shorter than 3 lines: within the body of the text, between double quotation marks, without the use of italics. Citations longer than 3 lines: separated from the text in a new paragraph, with 2 cm indentation, without quotation marks, font Times New Roman size 11, space between lines: 1.5, justified alignment.

2. In both cases, the author must be cited at the end of the citation, in parentheses by the last name, in capitals, and separated by a comma from the publication date. E.g.: (SILVA, 1987). When necessary, the specification of the page(s) number(s) must follow the date, separated by a comma and preceded by “p.” E.g.: (SILVA, 1987, p. 100). If the name of the author is cited within the text, the date and page number (if necessary) may simply be indicated. E.g.: “Silva (1987) signals that etc...” When citing several works by the same author, published in the same year, these must be differentiated by small letters after the date, without space. E.g.: (SILVA, 2000a). When the work has two or three authors, all of them may be indicated, separated by a semi-colon. E.g.: (SILVA; SOARES; SOUZA, 2000). When there are more than three authors, indicate the first followed by “et al”. E.g.: (SILVA et al., 2000). DO NOT use footnotes or endnotes to identify citations.

3. Italics should be used in words and expressions in a foreign language other than the one the manuscript is written in.

4. In case of emphasis, italics should be used as well. In order to indicate original emphasis, use: (BRANDÃO, 1987, p. 183, original emphasis). If added: (SHAKESPEARE, 1623, p. 139, emphasis added).

5. Endnotes should be used instead of footnotes. They should not be used to indicate bibliographical references.

6. Endnotes or footnotes should not be added to titles, tables or graphics.

7. The use of notes, citations, graphics, tables, images, pictures, photos, etc., must be limited to an essential minimum.

8. It is recommended to add the name(s) of people that somehow have helped in the data collection, illustrations, or even in the usage of labs as acknowledgement.

9. The manuscripts must be unnumbered.

10. Annex(es), if any, must be restricted to the bare minimum and must follow the References.

11. References, limited to the works actually cited in the text, must obey the most recent ABNT norms. As an example, we reproduce below the model to be adopted for citations of books, book chapters, articles and works accessed online:
