Este artigo tem o objetivo de analisar a estratégia de inserção regional da Guiana considerando suas relações com o Caribe e a América do Sul. Além da revisão bibliográfica, o trabalho adota como metodologia a aplicação de uma tipologia gradativa para avaliar o nível de profundidade da integração regional nas iniciativas das quais a Guiana participa e suas características.  Primeiramente, discute-se o conceito de integração e sua gradação entre mecanismos de consulta/concertação, cooperação e integração regional para categorizar as iniciativas latino-americanas e caribenhas. Posteriormente, ressaltam-se as particularidades guianenses considerando sua posição geográfica, assim como aspectos políticos, econômicos e culturais do país que influenciam em suas interações com os países vizinhos. Por fim, compara-se a participação da Guiana em diferentes iniciativas regionais, a saber a CARICOM, a AEC, a OTCA, a UNASUL, o PROSUL e a CELAC, de modo a analisar a profundidade das relações com os seus parceiros nos âmbitos caribenho e sul-americano. Conclui-se que a Guiana adota uma postura pragmática, buscando distanciar-se de alinhamentos ideológicos na sua interação com os países vizinhos e priorizando o seu desenvolvimento econômico. Observa-se uma integração mais profunda nas instituições caribenhas formadas por países com os quais compartilha uma história e cultura comuns, para além dos níveis de desenvolvimento e posição geográfica que facilitam a convergência de interesses. Com o passar dos anos, o país também vem se aproximando mais dos vizinhos sul-americanos, em um processo de continentalização, mas ainda por meio de instituições mais focadas na promoção da cooperação ou concertação regional. A maior integração com a América do Sul passa tanto pelo fortalecimento do relacionamento bilateral com o Brasil como pela construção de infraestruturas que conectem o país ao continente.

ABSTRACT

This article aims to analyze Guyana's regional insertion strategy considering its relations with the Caribbean and South America. Regarding the methodology, besides the bibliographic review, this work applies a gradual typology to assess the depthness of the regional integration in the initiatives in which Guyana participates and their characteristics. To this end, the concept of integration is discussed, and a gradual typology from consultation/conciliation mechanisms, regional cooperation and integration is used to categorize Latin American and Caribbean initiatives. Subsequently, Guyanese particularities are highlighted considering its geographical position, as well as political, economic and cultural aspects of the country that influence its interactions with neighboring countries. Finally, Guyana's participation in different regional initiatives is compared, namely in CARICOM, ACS, ACTO, UNASUR, PROSUR and CELAC, in order to analyze the depth of relations with its partners in the Caribbean and South American regions. We concluded that Guyana adopts a pragmatic stance, seeking to distance itself from ideological alignments in its interaction with neighboring countries and prioritizing its economic development. There is a deeper integration in Caribbean institutions formed by countries with which they share a common history and culture, in addition to the levels of development and geographical position that facilitate the convergence of interests. Over the years, the country is also getting closer to its South American neighbors, in a process of continentalization, but still through institutions more focused on promoting regional cooperation or concertation. Greater integration with South America involves both strengthening the bilateral relationship with Brazil and building infrastructure that connects the country to the continent.
