Futebol, identidade e as relações Brasil-Argentina: a luta simbólica pela hegemonia na América do sul

Abstract

O presente artigo tem por objetivo comparar as relações esportivas, mais especificamente futebolísticas e as relações políticas entre Brasil e Argentina. O futebol tem, por vezes, servido como uma ferramenta de política externa, veiculando uma imagem ou refletindo valores ou idéias políticas de um Estado. Uma vitória na Copa do Mundo pode ter significados muito além do esportivo, simbolizando a superação dos outros países termos políticos, econômicos, sociais ou até bélicos. A política externa, por sua vez, está calcada em diversos fatores, inclusive na identidade nacional, como defendem algumas correntes teóricas de Relações Internacionais. De posse da concepção de que o futebol foi uma ferramenta importante para a construção da identidade nacional brasileira, o presente trabalho pretende abordar a relação entre esse esporte e as relações entre Brasil e Argentina, procurando relacionar os campos esportivo e político.

Abstract:
This article aims to compare the sports relationship, specifically focused on football and political relations between Brazil and Argentina. Football has sometimes served as a foreign policy tool, conveying an image reflecting values or ideas or policies of a state. A victory in the World Cup may have meanings far beyond sports, symbolizing the overcoming of other countries political, economic, social or even war. Foreign policy, in turn, is grounded in several factors, including the national identity, as claimed by some theoretical schools of international relations. In possession of the view that football was an important tool for the construction of Brazilian national identity, this paper aims to address the relationship between the sport and the relations between Brazil and Argentina, linking sports and political fields.
