Cultural Goods and Repatriation: reflections on Brazilian bibliography | Bens Culturais e Repatriação: reflexões sobre a bibliografia brasileira

In recent decades, many restitution processes have been carried out, allowing cultural goods to return to their countries of origin. However, this practice is not yet fully consolidated internationally. The persistence of colonial mentality and a limited view of culture and heritage hinders acceptance of restitutions, especially among European and North American states. Brazil, as a country affected by the international trafficking of cultural goods, has a direct interest in this debate, particularly in repressing trafficking and promoting repatriation. This article conducts an analysis of part of the national bibliographic production on the topic to understand the current state of discussions in Brazil. Based on qualitative research and a bibliographic survey, it finds that Brazilian literature is still incipient, emphasizing normative and ethical-political approaches, while also addressing repatriation as historical reparation and a soft power tool. The article concludes by identifying research gaps and presenting suggestions for further investigation.
