O povo contra Larry Flynt: um libertário entre o sexo e as instituições

O presente trabalho discute a trajetória de vida do editor da revista pornográfica Hustler, Larry Flynt, através da análise do filme “O Povo contra Larry Flynt”, lançado em 1996. Hoje, Flynt é um importante ativista social que defende a garantia da liberdade de expressão nos EUA. Entretanto, como veremos ao analisar o filme, Larry Flynt se sentia contrariado por ter que defender, em diferentes tribunais do país, o que considerava seu direito fundamental. A histórica vitória na Suprema Corte, em 1988, contra o pastor Batista Jerry Falwell, marcou o começo da militância de Flynt respeitando as regras institucionais. Nesse contexto, o filme não apenas atuou para reconstruir a memória da vida do editor mas também para servir de instrumento de sua militância. Assim sendo, a película tornou-se fonte e objeto de nossa pesquisa histórica.
