Abstract

The aim of this article is to investigate the use of discursive strategies related to melodrama and feuilleton in the Brazilian sports press, especially by Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. To illustrate this aspect I will offer a brief analysis of the reception of Brazilian defeats in World Cups.

Leda Maria da Costa

Doctorate in Comparative Literature from the University of Rio de Janeiro. Researcher is bound to NEPESS ((Center for Studies and Research on Sports - UFF) and editor of the Sports and Society (www.esportesociedade.com). She is a member of the research group Sport. Laboratory History of sport and leisure, Comparative History Program of the IFCS. PROAP's scholarship program (Program for Supporting Research and Extension (PROAP), funded by Uniabeu (University Center) where he teaches and develops the project on the role of Mario Filho in the reformulation of the press discourse sports, in the 1920s and 1930s. His main publications are related to sports and the sporting press, highlighting the "Beauty, Effort and Talent.
