Dentoalveolar trauma is common in childhood. Several factors have contributed to this increase in cases of trauma in children. The objective of this study is to analyze descriptively 10 years of the Dental Traumatology Project at Pediatric Dental Clinic from the State University of Rio de Janeiro. Patient’s information, clinical and radiographic data were obtained from dental records from March 2006 to March 2016. These information were stored on a database and the descriptive statistical analysis was performed at the SPSS program (version 17.0). The results showed that 483 children (39.3%) had trauma to the primary teeth after suffering from falls (83.2%) at their residences (71.0%). From a total of 815 traumatized deciduous teeth, enamel fracture (43.3%) and intrusive luxation (39.8%) were the most common types of trauma observed in tooth and periodontal tissue, respectively. Regarding the age group, children with 1-4 years had trauma more often, both in tooth and in periodontal tissue. The most frequent sequelae in traumatized primary teeth were premature loss, discoloration and obliteration of the root canal. According to the results of this study children with 1-4 years of age have a high prevalence of dental trauma, causing, in most cases, enamel fracture and intrusive luxation. In most cases of traumatic injuries in deciduous teeth premature loss was the most frequent sequel.Downloads
