Abstract

This paper is a bibliographical and historical analysis of the relationship between the movements of Mental Hygiene and the New School Brazilian. The study covers the performance of the intellectual and psychiatrist Arthur Ramos. We consider the social, cultural and economic dimensions of the Brazilian society of the twentieth century and we analyze the literature about hygienism and the New School in Brazil to define concepts that refer to the relationship between these movements. We also analyzed the production of Arthur Ramos and his performance in service Orthophrenology and Mental Hygiene to define their place in the relationship between the concepts of Mental Hygiene and the New School.
