Abstract

This article aims to analyze the biography of Fernandes Figueira, who was responsible, in the 1920’s, for organizing childcare in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The discussion will focus on the image of Fernandes Figueira built by his colleagues and partners in eulogies published at the time of his death, and on the image he created for himself in 1924, in an article published in the Revista Médico Cirúrgica, at the time of his appointment to the position of Inspector-Chief of the Department of Child Hygiene of the National Department of Public Health (DNSP). It will also outline his work dedicated to children's health. Our purpose is not to create an exhaustive study about this doctor, but only to propose a reflection on his life story.
