Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word format or in a compatible word processor format.
  • URLs for the references have been provided whenever possible.
  • The text is formatted with 1.5 line spacing; uses Cambria font, 12-point size; employs italics instead of underlining (except for URL addresses); and figures and tables are inserted within the text, not at the end of the document as appendices.
  • The text follows the style standards and bibliographic requirements described in the Author Guidelines, on the About / Submissions page.
  • The contribution is original and unpublished and is not under review for publication by another journal; otherwise, this must be justified in the “Comments to the Editor.”

Author Guidelines

General Guidelines

  • The journal publishes original and unpublished contributions in sections dedicated to open articles, dossier articles, reviews, and interviews. Submissions may be written in Portuguese, English, Spanish, or French.
  • Article submissions are accepted on a rolling basis. To submit a manuscript, authors must register on the journal’s platform and then log in using a username and password.
  • As a minimum requirement, authors must be enrolled in a doctoral program. In the “Comments to the Editor” field, the author must include a brief biographical note with academic degree and institutional affiliation. In co-authored works, the second author may hold a master’s degree.
  • Articles signed by a maximum of four authors will be accepted for publication.
  • Submission, processing, and publication of articles are entirely free of charge, and the average evaluation period ranges from 60 to 120 days.
  • In order to reduce publication costs, authors are required to carry out orthographic and grammatical revision of the submitted texts. The absence of adequate revision, as identified by the Editorial Board, will be grounds for rejection.
  • No form of plagiarism will be accepted. Prior to peer review, all articles undergo a similarity check. If plagiarism or unethical conduct is identified, the article will not enter the evaluation process, and the authors will be notified.
  • At any time, should unethical conduct be identified in published texts, the journal may withdraw the article, issue corrections, or publish clarifications and retractions, according to the seriousness of the case.
  • The journal Intellèctus adopts the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Code of Ethics and the CNPq guidelines for integrity in scientific research.
  • Texts based on master’s dissertations or doctoral theses must be submitted in the format of a scientific article, and the conclusion must be original and unpublished. Content previously made available in theses or dissertations is not considered prior publication. However, authors are required to indicate, in a note, that the article derives from an academic work, including a link to the research from which it originated.

Guidelines for the Presentation of Manuscripts

  • Texts must be submitted in “.doc” format or a compatible file format.
  • To ensure double-blind peer review, authors must submit manuscripts without any authorship information, including on the title page, in the main text, and in the notes. Author details must be provided exclusively in the metadata form, including the author’s name, institutional affiliation, academic qualification, e-mail address, Lattes CV (for Brazilian authors only), and ORCID.
  • For article submissions, providing the ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) is mandatory. For registration and instructions, see: https://orcid.org/
  • Special attention must be paid to the file name of the article, which must not contain any form of author identification.
  • Authors must include the title in both Portuguese and English. Manuscripts must be accompanied by a summary of 90 to 130 words and an abstract, presenting a synthesis of the objectives and main conclusions of the work, as well as three to five keywords, in both Portuguese and English.
  • Research funding, when applicable, must be indicated in a footnote at the beginning of the text.
  • The length of articles must range from 6,000 to 9,500 words, including notes, sources, and bibliographic references.
  • The A4 format will be adopted, with top, bottom, and left margins of 2.5 cm and a right margin of 3.5 cm.
  • In the body of the text, use Cambria font, size 12, with 1.5 line spacing and justified alignment.
  • Quotations of up to four lines must appear in the body of the text, enclosed in quotation marks, without italics. Quotations longer than four lines must be set as a block quotation, indented 3 cm from the left margin, without quotation marks, using Cambria font, size 11.
  • Footnotes must be written in Cambria font, size 10, single-spaced, and justified. Notes should be substantive in nature, limited to additional comments on the text.
  • Italicize words in foreign languages.
  • Graphs must be accompanied by the corresponding spreadsheets from which they were generated, indicating the units in which values are expressed and the respective sources.
  • Images and illustrations must be numbered and accompanied by captions, with corresponding references in the body of the text. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission for the use of images and for submitting the relevant documentation to the journal.
  • Above the image, the caption should read “Image: (caption)”; below it, “Source: (origin of the image)”.
  • Subheadings should be used to indicate the sections of the text. Subheadings must be formatted in Cambria font, size 16, bold, with no paragraph indentation.
  • Bibliographic references must appear in the body of the text, in parentheses, indicating the author’s last name, year of publication, and page number when necessary (ARON, 2009: 54).
  • Sources” and “Bibliographic References” must be presented in Cambria font, size 12, single-spaced, with a hanging indent of 1 cm from the second line onward. Only works cited throughout the text should be included in the references.
  • References must be listed in alphabetical order. Even when the same author appears more than once, do not use a long dash or underline (____). The author’s full name must be repeated in each entry.
  • Research data management is a fundamental practice of open science. Authors must pay close attention to citations and to the proper referencing of data and all types of materials used in the preparation of the article.
  • Book reviews must not exceed 2,500 words and must follow the same formatting and reference standards adopted for articles. They must also include three keywords in Portuguese and English, as well as a resumo and an abstract.
  • Interviews must also be submitted through the journal’s online system and will be evaluated by the editors and the Editorial Board. They must include a brief introductory text by the interviewer(s), contextualizing the content and highlighting the relevance of the interviewee to the scope of the journal. The text must follow the same formatting and reference standards applied to articles, including three keywords in Portuguese and English, as well as a resumo and an abstract.
  • The Editorial Board is responsible for decisions regarding the publication of submitted contributions.

At the end of the article, “Sources” must be listed first, followed by “Bibliographic References.” For the “Sources,” the year of the first edition may be added in square brackets next to the year of the edition used. The works must be listed in alphabetical order, observing the following criteria:
