Abstract

Giovanna Rivero (Montero, 1972), an award-winning Bolivian writer, discusses the role of contemporary literature in the face of the ecological crisis, specifically that of Latin America. She reflects on the term “gothic” and its distinct uses by critics, publishers and the specialized press to label the writing by women in the Southern Cone of Latin America, pointing out the dangers of the term that suppresses the diversity of their production. She also discusses the influence of different geographical locations where she has lived and its impact on her literature. Finally, she comments on the translations of her work for the Brazilian market.
